Rehabilitation Therapy

Lutheran Home offers a dedicated 45-unit rehabilitation area separate from other service areas on the campus. The unit features all private rooms, which are fully decorated and furnished, in addition to common spaces for gatherings with other residents or family and friends. Each room also has a television and phone. Meals are enjoyed in a common dining area, when possible.

Staffed by HealthReach, our rehabilitation services are provided by a skilled, personable, friendly staff. One staff member will be dedicated to you and your recovery during you entire stay.

All residents are welcome to enjoy the activities and programs and take advantage of the many amenities offered at Lutheran Home. 

Lutheran Home also has easy access for visiting family and friends, centrally located in Wauwatosa, minutes from the expressway. (Get directions.)

Lutheran Home is a member of LutheranLiving Services, a non-profit organization with an outstanding reputation of serving seniors for more than 100 years. LutheranLiving Services offers a variety of services including rehabilitation services. assisted living, specialized memory care assisted living, skilled nursing, adult day services, children’s center and hospice care.

Pre-Admission for Scheduled Procedures

For people who have scheduled elective orthopedic procedures such as hip, knee, and spinal surgeries, there is an easy way to set up your rehabilitation needs ahead of time.

Why worry about the hassles of finding a place to recover after an orthopedic procedure? Lutheran Home offers pre-admission for people who would like to utilize our rehabilitation services. Simply call Betty at 414-258-6180 ext. 272 for more information.

Why should you pre-admit?

  1. Ask all your questions ahead of time.
  2. Let us address any concerns you might have.
  3. Tour the building and become familiar with the therapy department.
  4. Take care of all the paperwork ahead of time.
  5. You do not have to worry about room availability. We will reserve your room to the best of our ability.

Physical Therapy

Therapy services are provided by licensed Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy Assistants.

Our highly trained, personable, and skilled therapists treat many conditions such as:

  • Musculoskeletal dysfunction
  • Pain

Speech-Language Pathology Services

Therapy services are provided by licensed Speech-Language Pathologists Certified by the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association.

Speech-Language Pathologists address many patient conditions including:

  • Disorders of speech and hearing
  • Problems related to eating and swallowing
  • Early cognitive deficits
  • Stuttering
  • Training in lip reading
  • Need for alternative communication systems
  • Voice control

Occupational Therapy

Therapy services are provided by Registered Occupational Therapists and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants.

The skills of the occupational therapist are used to assist the resident in areas including:

  • Independence in activities of daily living
  • Correct postures and seating
  • Cognition and memory changes
  • Need for adaptive equipment
  • Energy conservation techniques
  • Home safety evaluations

Specialty Programs

Lymphedema/Edema Care

Lymphedema is an accumulation of fluid that collects in the arm, leg or genital area when lymph vessels or lymph nodes are blocked or removed. The Lymphedema Center, a division of HealthReach, provides effective, compassionate treatment for this condition within long term care and assisted living facilities.

Continence Care
HealthReach offers state-of-the-art multimodality treatment of bowel and bladder incontinence. Treatment is based on diet analyses, behavioral techniques, and computerized biofeedback exercises to treat incontinence and other related problems.

Safe Living
This program is designed to work closely with residents, families and physicians to assess an individual’s personal living environment and to make recommendations that will keep them in their home, living both safely and independently, for as long as possible.
